Make the most of the conference! The first-timer mentorship program connects first-time end-user conference attendees with experienced end-user attendees (mentors) to help them navigate the event, build connections and get the most out of their conference experience. You must be a member to participate.

Mentor: A mentor is an end-user who has attended at least one conference and volunteers to guide and support a first-time attendee by sharing insights and answering questions about the conference.

First-Time Attendee: Is an end-user who has not been to an IOCP conference and is seeking guidance, advice and a familiar face to help navigate the event. (If you are a first-time attendee, be sure to attend our  first-timer orientation, April 27, 3:304:00 p.m., the day before breakout sessions start.)

Spots are limited, so be sure to register as soon as possible for the best chance at getting paired.

Steps to Enroll in Mentor Program as a Mentor or Mentee:

  1. Become a member.
  2. Register for the conference and indicate your interest in being a mentee or mentor on your registration form.
  3. Wait for confirmation from IOCP to be sent two to four weeks before the conference.

Mentor Expectations:

  • Initiate communication with the first-timer prior to the conference.
  • Answer any newcomer questions and schedule a call the week prior to the conference so they know what you look like when you meet in person.
  • Schedule a time to meet with your mentee at the conference to offer guidance and serve as a familiar face.
  • You are not expected to stay with your pairing throughout the event—this is a light, informal connection.

First-Timer Expectations:

  • Communicate your first-timer conference questions to your mentor.
  • Coordinate with your mentor to meet virtually prior to the conference.
  • Meet with your mentor at the conference and ask any questions you may have.
  • You are not expected to stay with your pairing throughout the event—this is a light, informal connection.

FAQs

The First-Timer Mentorship Program connects first-time end-user conference attendees (who are members) with experienced attendees to help them navigate the event, build connections and get the most out of their experience. You must be a member to participate.

Anyone who has attended the conference before and feels comfortable answering questions, offering tips and being a welcoming presence for a newcomer.

Participants are paired based on the sector, industry or program size, but an exact match is not guaranteed. We do our best to match individuals with similar roles or interests.

Pairing begins two to four weeks before the conference, depending on when you registered or expressed interest. You will receive an introductory email connecting you with your mentor or mentee once the match is made. Spots are limited and not guaranteed, so be sure to register as soon as possible for the best chance of getting paired.

The program is designed to be light and informal. Each pair is expected to connect in the week before the conference and meet again during the conference, as necessary, to answer any questions.

No. You’re not expected to attend sessions or social events together. This is a flexible connection, not a full-time partnership.

If you haven’t received a response within a few days of the introduction email, feel free to follow up once. If there’s still no response, contact sierra.lindemann@iocpnow.com and we’ll do our best to help.

We encourage pairs to choose a time that works for them early in the conference, ideally before sessions start. Some recommendations are during the receptions in the exhibit hall, breakfasts and meet and greets.
