Along with the good stuff, comes some bad stuff. Ransomware is a form of malicious software, or malware, that blocks a user from their computer system and/or data until a ransom is paid. It is the No. 1 threat to companies due to its high profitability, and it increased 365% from 2018 to 2019. In many cases, employees are unaware they have unleashed this software since it is delivered through phishing emails and infected websites.
